European Mobility Week is upon us again. It takes place from 16 - 22 September. The theme for 2010 is 'Travel Smarter, Live Better'. Towns and cities accross Europe will be organising events and initiatives to promote the use of public transport, cycling and walking. Castlebar is participating in this for the second year in a row, thanks to Iompar Castlebar, a group set up in 2009 to promote sustainable travel in the town. This year there are a range of events and initiative s , organised by Iompar Castlebar, in the pipeline for the week:

Sustainable Travel Exhibitions by local schools as part of the Green Schools Initiative in the library
Back on Your Bike Training: Tennis Club, Lough Lannagh Road, on Thursday 16 September from 6 to 8 pm.
'Live better, Travel Smarter' Event: Outside Dunnes on Friday 17 from 4-6 pm. Lessons for cyclists and pedestrians on blind spots and lorry danger / Get your bicycle licence / Free draw for prizes. Some well know celebrities just might show up to participate!

'In Town without your Car': The Mall on Wednesday 22 Sept from 12 to 2 pm. Fun games promoting cycling and sustainable transport; Presentation of prize to Castlebar's Smartest Mover 2010; exhibition of bikes old and new; Mass cycle around Castlebar town at 1:30 pm.

A FREE SHUTTLE BUS will be in operation between Castlebar and Westport from 20 - 24 September. So, leave your car behind and hop on the bus! To find out more log onto www.gomayo.ie
